The origin of the Solon Springs Funeral Home began in 1966, when Jim and Barb Petit purchased a piece of land at the intersection of Biller Loop Road and Highway 53 in Solon Springs on which to build the Petit Funeral Home. Jim and Barb would continue to operate the funeral home in Solon Springs as a stand-alone business until they saw a need to better serve the Minong community. In 1974, the Petit Funeral Home in Minong was built so better service could be provided to both communities.

In August of 1977, Ron Brown joined Jim and Barb as a licensed funeral director. Ron and his wife Jeanne, both Shell Lake residents, moved to Solon Springs and in 1978 purchased the funeral homes, changing the name to Petit-Brown Funeral Homes. After several years of ownership, the name of the funeral homes was changed to Brown Funeral Homes.

In 1998, the funeral homes were sold to Keystone, Inc. Ron and Jeanne continued on with Keystone until their retirement from the day-to-day operations in 2002. The funeral homes were again sold, this time to Service Corp International (SCI) in 2010. During this ownership, it was decided that the Minong location would be closed and sold.

In 2014, the funeral home in Solon Springs was purchased by Michael Bratley and Marcus Nelson. Mike and Marcus had been associated with the Brown Funeral Home since 1998, through mutual ownership of the Anderson Nathan Koerpel Funeral Home in Hayward and the Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner through SCI. The name was changed to Solon Springs Funeral Home, and continues to serve the residents of the Solon Springs area under the Bratley-Nelson Funeral Homes and Crematory family of funeral homes, with other locations in Spooner and Hayward.
