William Louis Swintkowski

William “Bill” Swintkowski, former City of Hayward Mayor, died June 18, 2026, at his home in Hayward, WI.

William Louis Swintkowski was born November 30, 1957, in Chicago, IL the son of Eugene and Sylvia (Polka) Swintkowski.  He was raised in Chicago until the age of 9 when his family decided to move to Stone Lake, WI where they had vacationed.  In his youth, Bill enjoyed playing basketball, football, and golfing.   He was a member of the chess club and audiovisual club in high school.  He graduated from Hayward High School in 1975 and then attended the University of Wisconsin, Stout in Menomonie, WI.  Bill returned to Stone Lake and began working with Indianhead Printing and then went to work with CDS Interiors.  On October 14, 1995, Bill was joined in marriage to Julie K. Schubring-Munson in Hayward.  Bill and Julie worked for ABC Lumber in Hayward where Bill managed the yard for many years and did interior sales.  For 30 years, Bill served on the city council for Hayward and spent eight of those years as Mayor.  Bill and Julie founded Grandma Ferdon’s, a gluten-free bakery that served multiple states and 60 grocery stores.  Bill and Julie also enjoyed their wintertime vacations to Mazatlán, Mexico which they did for over twenty years together.  Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and golfing.  He was member of the Hayward Masonic Lodge and became a Shriner.

Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Julie; two daughters, Billy Jo and Danielle; two stepsons, Ben (Stephanie) Schubring of Waukesha, WI, Dan (Gao) Schubring of Waunakee, WI; one grandson, Hunter; step granddaughter, Payton; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Geraldine Milovich, Nancy Vargo and infant sister, Cindy Swintkowski. 

A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Hayward Wesleyan Church with Pastor Tim Young officiating.  A time of gathering will be held Friday evening at the Hayward Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the Wesleyan church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Friends are encouraged to bring a picture of Bill with a favorite memory to share.  Interment will be at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery in Stone Lake, WI.
