Stanley D. Largent, 85, passed away on October 7, 2024, at Villa Marina in Superior WI, from end stage Parkinson’s disease. He was born on Tuesday, January 31,1939 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Chester (Buster) and Esther Largent. The Largent family moved to Maple WI when Stanley was 15 years old. After graduating high school in 1957 from Northwestern High School in Maple WI., Stanley started his first job in the grocery business with Red Owl Foods as a stockman and worked his way up to a manager position. He worked for Red Owl Foods for many years at several separate locations in the Twin Ports area and ended his career as an assistant manager with Super One Foods in Superior WI. Stanley retired to care for his wife, Dorothy. Stanley and Dorothy (Fair) were married on June 6,1959. They were together for forty-nine years, until Dorothy passed on July 23, 2008. They had four children, Dean, Scott, Glen, and Sue and lived in Proctor for many years. On August 25, 2011, Stanley married Patricia (Pat) Slocum, adding several more children and grandchildren to Stanley’s life. Stanley and Pat were married for nine years until she passed away on December 8, 2020.
While living in Proctor, he was a little league coach when the boys were young, a member of the Proctor Moose and a board member and volunteer at View Crest Care Center, in Duluth, MN. When the kids were young, he and his family enjoyed many years of camping until life became too hectic and the kids were busy with other activities. Stanley enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his friends and family, camping at Clearwater Campground in Gordon WI, where he and Pat camped for years. One of his favorite past times was working with wood. Stan enjoyed working with his hands and created several pieces that are still in the family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Stanley is preceded in death by his parents Chester (Buster) and Esther Largent, brother James (Jim) Largent, wife Dorothy (Fair) Largent and wife Patricia (Slocum) Largent. He is survived by his sisters Marjorie Harrison of Harlingen, Texas and Patty (George) Pluntz of Solon Springs, WI, his four children Dean (Cindy) Largent of Lake Nebagamon, WI, Scott (Anne) Largent of Hayward, WI, Glen Largent (Carolyn) of Siren, WI, and Sue Rengo, formerly of Cottage Grove, MN. Jim (Peggy Sue) Slocum, Sharri (Keith) Love, Jerry Slocum, Tom (Loralea) Slocum, Alvin (Sarah) Torgerson, Angelica Suliin, Kreytt Slocum, Kanyon (Ari) Slocum. Grandchildren: Amanda (Ryan), Jenny, Brittney (Robert), Branden, Mikayla (Anthony), Rhiannon, Alyssa, Nick, Kara, Ryan, Nick, CJ, Daniel, Ashley (Cyrus), Bayley, Aleeshia, Dustin, Kayla, Zach, Kieanna, Fabian, Kyle, Josh, Noah, Hannah and Evan, seventeen great grandchildren, another on the way in March and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, MN, New Perspective in Superior, WI and Villa Marina in Superior, WI for all their wonderful care.
Perhaps you sent a lovely card,
Or sat quietly in a chair.
Perhaps you sent a funeral spray,
If so we saw it there.
Perhaps you spoke the kindest words,
That anyone could say.
Perhaps you were not there at all,
Just thought of us that day.
Whatever you did to console our hearts,
We thank you so much
whatever the part…
