Sandra Kay Burns, 88, Hayward, WI passed away on Thursday December 11, 2025.
Sandy was born on June 1, 1937 in Elkhart, IN to Arden and Hazel (Eger)
Bratton. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1955. While attending
Indiana University she met Ronald Burns. The two were married
in June of 1960 in Elkhart, IN. Ron preceded her in death on April 26, 2024. Sandy worked as an English teacher in South Bend after they were married before moving to Milwaukee in 1970. When her kids grew up a bit Sandy went back to work as a substitute teacher and a volunteer at Methodist Manor in Milwaukee. After years of vacationing at Slack’s Resort Ron & Sandy bought a little place on Big Round Lake and spent many happy years there. Sandra took great pride in cooking and baking and her grandchildren looked forward to her homemade apple pies. A regular at the Methodist Church, Sandy was an avid reader, gardener and enthusiastic Indiana Hoosier and Packer fan. She enjoyed being a member of PEO and Junior League. Sandy loved her friends, neighbors and staff at Water’s Edge in Hayward.
She is survived by her children Dwight (Rebecca) Burns, Whitefish Bay, WI and their children Kay (Hans) Wustrack, Sean and Ryan; Rhonda (Paul) McKeon, Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald, and her sister Joan Oldfather.
A Memorial service for Sandy will be held Sat June 13th at 11am at the United Methodist Church in Hayward.
