Matthew “Matt” Kroll, 86, Bayfield, WI, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, receiving compassionate care at Hayward Health Services with loved ones by his side.
He was born September 14, 1939, in Milwaukee, WI to the late Frank P. and Irene R. (Rostankowski).
He is survived by his children Christine (Peter)LeMay, Michael (Joy)Kroll, Karen Kroll and Jonathan Walen. Grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, Sarah, Derek. Great grandchildren Harrison, Christopher and Alex, extended family and many friends. Matt is also survived by his dear friend and companion Nancy Trapp and their cherished pets Ginger and Sammy.
Matt graduated in 1957 from Bayview High School, Milwaukee, WI. He was naturally mechanically inclined. From work to tinkering around, troubleshooting, assembling, designing and repair was no problem for him.
He worked for Harley Davidson as a project engineer, notably on the XR750. Resulting in the most winningest motorbike in flat track racing. Matt enjoyed watching or attending motorbike racing, meeting up with longtime friends John Pohland, Walt Fulton III and Peter Zylstra at many events reminiscing.
Living in the Northwoods, Matt enjoyed many adventures and activities, especially sailing. Lake Superior was his Haven as he spent many days/nights on his sailboat. He enjoyed the sailing community and friendships he made throughout the years. Matt worked for a few years for the Apostle Islands Cruise Service where he was captain of the Eagle Island and the three masted schooner, Zeeto. He was also first mate on the Denis Sullivan sail to Milwaukee.
He was proceeded in death by his brother Thaddeus (Ted), grandson Niklas Kroll, and partner Jacqueline Walen.

A celebration of life will be held at Matthew and Nancy's home, October 18, 2025, 3p.m.
