Mary Elizabeth Kirkwood

Mary Elizabeth Kirkwood, age 85, of Spooner, WI, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at her home.

Mary was born on August 4, 1936, in San Jose, CA, to parents Irvin and Mary (Groszmann) Kingdom. She was raised in Santa Cruz, CA and graduated from high school there. Mary held many part time and full time positions in food service, retail, and gardening throughout her life. In 1990 Mary and her husband, Phillip, moved to Spooner, WI, where they owned and operated the Indianhead Flower Shop for 16 years. Mary was a social butterfly and loved to volunteer at places that lead her to meet new people. She often volunteered at the Spooner Elementary School, the Trinity Lutheran Church, and a variety of other local organizations.

Mary enjoyed gardening and sewing quilts, most of which were donated to the Lutheran World Relief and other local charities. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she loved celebrating with her family. Most of all Mary loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mary lived a long, full life and made the most of every opportunity life gave her.

Mary is survived by her children, Pandie Sue (Phil) Hedlund, Jeffrey Kirkwood, and Eric Kirkwood; siblings, Helen Kingdom, Betsy Kingdom, and William Kingdom; and 6 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Kirkwood; sister, Susan Aufranc; and brother, Irvin “Bud” Kingdom.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Spooner Funeral Home. An interment will be held Tuesday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
