Martha Jean "Marty" (Bates) Bursey

Martha Jean “Marty” Bursey, age 62, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 in Stone Lake, Wisconsin.  She was born on September 13, 1962 in Hayward, WI, the daughter of William Sr. and Judith (Tart) Bates.  She was united in marriage to Cecil Bursey on May 16, 1986 in Lavon, TX. 

Marty was a 1980 graduate of Hayward High School.  She had lived in Texas for over 30 years.  She had a degree in horticulture and worked as a florist for most of her career.  Marty had the greenest thumb in the family and loved all types of gardening.  She was a very hard worker and a dedicated mother.  She loved all her family dearly.

She is survived by her children, Nathan (Tonya) Bursey of Terrell, TX, Julia (Brandon) Allred of Farmersville, TX and Caleb Bursey of Stone Lake, WI; her grandchildren, Keelan, Huntliegh, Ethan, Kaytlyn, Caleb and Josh; her siblings, Bill (Dana) Bates, Julie (Ralph) Bates-Eckes, Vance (Deb) Bates, Barbara (James) Bates-Labonte, Marybeth Bates and Bradley (Missy) Bates; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Marty is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Bursey; her brother, Jeff Bates; and her granddaughter, Emma.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. on Friday, September 12, 2025 at the Hayward Funeral Home.  A memorial service will follow at 2:30 P.M.   Interment will be held privately.
