Obituary

Lonnie LaRue, age 70, a resident of Trego, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota.

Lonnie was born in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, on November 21, 1950, to parents Elmer and Josephine (Thibodeau) LaRue.  After high school, Lonnie enlisted in the US Marine Corps and would serve from 1968 until being honorable discharge in 1970 during the Vietnam War.  On June 15, 1973, he was united in marriage to Lorretta Peterson at her parent’s home in Spooner, Wisconsin.  Lonnie worked at Peterson Fiberglass in Shell Lake for 20+ years before starting LaRue Excavating, retiring in 2019 due to health reasons.  While owning his excavating business, he also would plow snow during the winter months for many local and non-local people in the Spooner/Trego area.  Lonnie loved deer hunting, just being outdoors, helping people, and was a role model to his family and friends.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Lorretta; brothers and sisters:  Di (Bill) Ruwe of Nebraska, Gary (Linda) LaRue of Roundup, Montana, Mark LaRue of Roundup, Montana, and Pamela (Kevin) Shager of South Wayne, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
