Joseph Michael Jalowitz, age 96, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026, at his residence in Hayward, WI. He was born on July 2, 1929, in Chicago, IL, the son of James and Stella (Trush) Jalowitz. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Stine on June 28, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward, WI.
Joe was a 1948 graduate of Hayward High School. He met Betty Lou at a Round Lake School dance, and they have been dancing ever since. Joe was the meat department manager at the local Northern Lakes Co-op Store and retired after 38 years. He was a well-known sausage maker and was well known for his garlic and onion brats as well as his signature “Joe’s Brats” which people loved. He and Betty enjoyed taking their family camping and fishing, both instilling appreciation for the outdoors amongst all their children. Joe took pride in teaching his family and all his grandchildren how to trout fish the small streams throughout the Northwoods. He proudly served his country in the Wisconsin National Guard.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Betty Lou Jalowitz of Hayward; his children, Joseph (Laura) Jalowitz Jr., Deborah LaSavage, Cindy (Carey) Gidley, Patty Jalowitz, Steven Jalowitz, Maria (Jim) MacLaughlin, and Andrew (Debra) Jalowitz all of Hayward; his foster child, Bruce (Kim) Tworek of California; seventeen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his son, Tony Jalowitz; and his brother, James Jalowitz; and his sister, Rosemarie Homesky.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward where visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of Mass. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
