Janet Ross, age 89, a current resident of Shell Lake, and a long-time resident of the Lampson area, died on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Shell Lake Health Care in Shell Lake.
Janet was born on April 2, 1936, at home on a small farm north of Spooner on Hwy K, to parents Raymond and Evelyn (Anderson) Geving. As a child, the family moved to the Town of Brooklyn where she grew up on a farm. On the farm, she had many pets, of which she especially enjoyed her horse named lucky, that her father had bought for her. She met Stanley Ross while she was staying with her cousin for a time in Minnesota. They were married on February 14, 1960, at Christ Lutheran Church in Lampson. Janet enjoyed gardening, watching Lawrence Welk, listening to music, feeding birds, and watching the wildlife. She especially enjoyed having coffee and visiting with some of her senior neighbors. In her younger years, she hosted many of the family gatherings at her home. Janet was a caring and loving sister. Through the years, she worked at several retail stores including Link Brothers in Minong, Smith’s Gifts and Antiques in Spooner and also J.C. Penny in Spooner.
Janet is survived by her sister Rita R (Roger) Peterson of Lampson, loving friend since childhood Karen Randby and family, and several cousins.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband Carl Stanley Ross, and her parents.
A private graveside service will be held at the Lampson Cemetery.
The public is invited to a Celebration of Janet's life to be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 3pm, at the Spooner Funeral Home with Pastor Leonard Wildauer officiating, with a time of visitation to follow until 5pm.
