James H Vietoris

 James H. Vietoris (aka Jim, Big (Uncle) Jim, Jimmy V, Jimbo and Vi) passed away on April 16, with his wife and sister at his side after a brief battle with bile duct/pancreatic cancer.

He was born to Victor and Marilyn (Johnson) in Joliet, IL, on June 24, 1954. He attended several grade schools before graduating from Joliet East High School in 1973.

Jim worked in construction alongside his father and brother until 1986 when he married his forever partner, JoAnn Landrey.  At that time, he moved to Wascott/Gordon Wisconsin to fulfil his lifelong dream of living in the Northwoods and owning the Lookout Bar. Together, Jim and JoAnn, operated the Lookout for 23 years. During that time, Jim continued to work in the construction field in the Laborer’s Union. He served on the board of Local 1050 as President until the merger with Local 1091 in 2004. He retired in 2013.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his Harley and vacationing in Florida in his later years.

He leaves behind his wife JoAnn of 38 years, her parents; Wayne and Beverly Landrey, and his best buds (canines) Scooter and Chopper.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dan.

He is survived by his sister, Laura (Mike) Carmody; sister-in-law, Bonnie Vietoris; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Tammy) Landrey and Mark (Sam Welch) Landrey; sisters-in-law, Michelle (Perry Pilarski) Houseman and Lynnette (Andy) Hrvatin; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and a great nephew to be.

The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Oncology Infusion Department, Regional Hospice Services and Palliative Care, The Gordon/Wascott EMS and all those who supported us during his final months.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22, 2024, from noon until 4 pm., at   M & M’s Y-Go-Bye, Gordon, WI, in lieu of a funeral.

Memorials in his name can be made to Gordon/Wascott EMS, Douglas County Humane Society, or Regional Hospice Services and Palliative Care.
