Helen C.G. Robertson, age 94, formerly of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Northern Lights Health Care Center, in Washburn. She was born October 29, 1925, in Joliet, IL, the daughter of Gerasimos “Jerry” and Anna (Kovac) Gianutsas.
In 1943, Helen graduated from Joliet Township High School and later graduated in 1946 from the St. Luke’s School of Nursing (a branch of Rush University), in Chicago, IL. Helen worked her entire career as a nurse for the Commonwealth Edison Company, in Chicago. During WWII, Helen became a member of the US Cadet Nursing Corp. She married her husband, her friend, and her love, Donald W. Robertson Jr., in River Forest, IL. Helen was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland. Donald and Helen spent their retirements in Ashland. Helen was a loving and caring person who was always willing to help those in need. Helen has started the Helen Gianutsas Robertson Endowed Scholarship Fund to benefit students of the Rush College of Nursing. Helen was a very smart lady who always did what she wanted and how she wanted. She lived and peacefully died as she has always done her entire life: Her Way!
Helen is survived by some distant relatives and her Ashland family, Tim, Leslie, Lauren, and Elise Bratley, Caroline Green, and Maryanne Benane.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on October 19, 2003; a brother, Nick; a sister, Mary; and a very special friend, Marge Brumley.
Private family services will be held.
