Frederick Elmer "Fritz" Poppe, 86, of Seeley, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026. Born on February 18, 1940, to Clifford Emil and Juanita Virginia (Sabin) Poppe, Fritz was a proud second-generation member of the Poppe family in the Seeley area.
He attended school in Seeley before graduating from the Hayward High School district, where he met his high school sweetheart, Kristine Ann Olson. They were married on May 3, 1958, and shared many wonderful years together.
Fritz proudly served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1957 to 1965, including deployment with the 32nd Infantry Division's 724th Engineer Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington. He later took over the family business, Poppe Inc., known for its slogan, "We Move the Earth," and dedicated his life to serving his family and community through his work.
He found joy in stock car and horse races at Northern Lights, hunting trips to Wyoming, fishing, ATV rides, dancing, caring for his yard, and, most of all, spending time with his family. Fritz never met a stranger and will be remembered for his friendly smile, hardworking spirit, and genuine kindness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristine; his daughter, Ellen Jane Roberts; and his granddaughter, Tanya Marie Poppe.
Fritz is survived by his children, Mike (Mary) Poppe, Pat (Kelly) Poppe, Linda (Rich) Piecuch, Kathleen Daily, and Paula Poppe; his son-in-law, Jim Roberts; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; his special partner in crime, Priscilla (Jim) Poppe; his breakfast buddy, George; and many extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayward, with visitation beginning one hour prior. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Phipps Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sawmill Saloon in Seeley.
