Francis Barrett

Francis Leroy Barrett, age 90, of Solon Springs, WI, passed away November 11, 2025, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was born on December 3, 1934, in Trego, WI, the son of Domnic and Grace (Teegarden) Barrett. He was united in marriage to Darlene Christina Paske in Shell Lake, WI.

Francis proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He had a successful career with US Steel starting in Morgan Park and finishing as a production foreman in the Virginia mines. He enjoyed farming, gardening, blueberry and pine bough picking, maple syruping, cutting firewood, and being outside in the Northwoods. Francis was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, trapping, and ice fishing. He also was a cowboy at heart, enjoying western life and all things related to rodeo. He loved sharing all of these things with his family. They were all activities that included everyone, a true family affair. Francis's greatest love was his family, and he cherished his grandchildren and holding his great-grandchildren. They truly were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Darlene Barrett of Solon Springs; his daughters, Robin of Solon Springs, Penny of Bennett and Kim of Solon Springs; his grandchildren, Mark Nemmers, Rebecca Nemmers, Michael Nemmers, Leevi (Haley) Honkanen and Dylan (Emily) Schiff; his great-grandchildren, Arora, Ryan, Stetson and Sage; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Francis is preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, James and Danny Barrett, and his sisters, Marion and Georgina.

Francis went to be welcomed by all those who loved him and went on before him.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Solon Springs Funeral Home where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Interment with military honors will follow at the Wascott Cemetery.
