Elizabeth “Betty” Blanchette, age 70, a resident of Spooner, died at her home on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, with family by her side.
Elizabeth “Betty” Blanchette was born on November 15, 1955, in Paynesville, Minnesota, to parents Claude and Joanne (Glauvitz) Nelson. She graduated from Belgrade High School, and then continued her education by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Moorhead State University. After college, her first job was working in the Minnesota Governor’s Office before taking a job with General Mills. Betty moved to Florida for a while before moving back to Minnesota, where she took a job at United Building Center in Stillwater, MN. While living in Stillwater, she absolutely loved boating on the St. Croix River. Betty loved the outdoors, looking for rocks, and gardening. She is remembered as slamming on the brakes to stop and dig up plants in the ditch to take home and transplant, as they were just going to get mowed down anyway! Betty later in life became an avid angler. She enjoyed fishing with Dale no matter the weather. She loved to fish on open water, or through the ice. Betty was also a very knowledgeable, arm chair coach for her beloved Minnesota Vikings, and loved being a jokester with her family, right up until her passing.
Betty is survived by her husband Dale, daughter Tiffany (Chris) Elness, and their children: Brooke, Abigail, Gavin, and Elodie, step son Donald (Rachael) Blanchette, and their children: Brittney, Nicholas, Nicole, and their grandchildren: Gabriela and Kaleo, step son Justin (Shelley) Blanchette, sister Linda (Robert) Ampe, and her mother Joanne.
Betty is preceded in death by her father Claude.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorials be directed to her husband Dale. Betty was loved and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
