Doris Perry Obituary

Doris Margaret Perry, age 99, of Spooner, Wisconsin passed away on March 10, 2024, at Glenview Assisted Living. Doris was born June 29, 1924, at home on Benoit Lake to parents, Joseph & Margaret (Kimball) Christner. Doris graduated from Spooner High School in 1940 and received her teaching certificate from Superior Teachers College. Doris taught first through eighth grade in a one room schoolhouse, first at Dongola School in 1942-1943 and second at her childhood school at Gaslyn Creek.

On June 10, 1944, Doris was united in marriage to Wayne Charles Perry in Pine City, Minnesota. They spent 62 years together before his passing on May 22, 2006. Together they farmed and built and operated a resort on Lipsie Lake.

Doris is survived by four children Dale (Carter) Fleener; Dean; Diane (Mike) Moore; Peggy (John) Anderson; grandchildren Erica, Bethany, Mac, Dustin, Nicole, Kristen; and ten great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by husband, Wayne; brother, Winton Christner; sister, Jean Brede and grandson, Patrick.

Doris was active in her community and served as secretary/treasurer for over 25 years for the township of Rusk. She was also secretary/treasurer of the Spooner Resort Association from 1974 to 1979. Doris was involved with the Rolling Hills Snowmobile Club and volunteered at the Railroad Museum.

The original Lipsie Lake Association was founded May 14, 1977. Doris served as the secretary/treasurer and remained at this post until 2013 when she retired.

Doris enjoyed playing various card games, doing puzzles, reading, and ancestry. She greatly enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, Packers and Vikings and best of all dancing with Wayne. She enjoyed deer hunting and fishing in her younger years.

The people closest to her will remember her as a selfless, resilient, independent, knowledgeable and compassionate woman, loved by all generations.
