Donald Edward Monson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Tamarack Health Center in Hayward, WI. He was born on November 7, 1941 in Cable, WI, the son of Donald and Magdeline (Lang) Monson. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Luella Tousley on August 25, 1962 in River Falls, WI.
Donald graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant for 3M for several years before joining his father in their family-owned lumber yard. He later moved back to Cable, WI to manage the local lumber yard. Donald proudly served his country with the Wisconsin Army National Guard and was activated and deployed to Fort Lewis in Washington during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and all aspects of hunting the Northwoods. Donald also made trips to Alaska for hunting, fishing and even gold prospecting. He was also quite the collector, most notably for coins. He was a faithful member of Masonic Lodge in River Falls and very active throughout the state with the Shriner’s. Donald was member of the American Legion for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Carolyn Monson of Cable, WI; his children, Susan (James) Kinzie of Drummond, WI and Matthew Monson of River Falls, WI; his brother, Richard Monson of Arizona; his sister, Kathleen (Robert) Moody of River Falls, WI his nieces and nephew, Stacey (Gordon) Emmert, Heidi (Tom) Murray and Robert D. Moody.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his special uncle, Larry Lang.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the American Legion Post 487, 46895 Trail Inn Road S in Cable, WI.
