David E. Seymour Sr.

David Edward Seymour Sr., age 92, of Hayward, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.  He was born April 19, 1927 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Frank O. and Rose B. (Clifford) Seymour. 

David was the youngest of three children.  His father moved the family to Chicago, IL when David was young to find work.  David met the love of his life, Nancy Gunning and they dated until he enlisted at age 17 in the United States Marine Corps.  David and Nancy were married for 64 years.  David was honorably discharged in 1946.  Dave and Nancy made their home in Evergreen Park, IL and raised two children David Jr. and Linda.  David worked various jobs in the Chicago area, including time as a Manager at Rheem Mfg. Company.  The couple loved the Hayward area and vacationed here with their family for over 20 years.  In 1969 they bought an outboard motor business that his son continues to operate today.  He served the community for many years with the Lions Club.  David was blessed with a generous sense of humor and always enjoyed helping others. 

He is survived by his children, David (Marie) Seymour Jr. of Hayward and Linda (Ken) Eberhardt of Stevens Point; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Nancy; and his siblings, Kathleen and Francis. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Hayward Funeral Home, 15571 W County Highway B in Hayward, where visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.  Pastor Cathy Hamblin will officiate.  Interment with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in David’s name may be directed to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
