David Hulon Greene

David Hulon Greene, 89, of the Chippewa Flowage passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Dave was born in Moose Lake, Wisconsin on June 15, 1936 to Hulon and Bonnie Greene.  He attended the Moose Lake School.  On October 25, 1958 he was joined in marriage to Betty A. Jalowitz, his wife of 65 years.  They started their family in Yakima, Washington where he was a logger.  Upon moving back to the Hayward area, he continued to log and guide fishermen.  Dave and Betty opened D&B Bait together. They ran the Bait Shop for 55+ years and were a fixture for fishermen in the area.  He had a strong work ethic and kept busy with an array of different jobs. 

Dave loved people and was always one to socialize. He was well liked and was appreciated for his unique sense of humor, immense generosity, and jovial personality.  He took great pride in giving to his community, especially encouraging a love of fishing in the local youth, and a good friend and neighbor.  Dave was a true outdoorsman from a bygone area, from his many years of logging to his natural talent in fishing and hunting, he held a lifetime appreciation for the beauty and resources provided by the woods and water around us. 

It’s been long said by friends and family that no one knew the woods around Moose Lake quite like Dave did.  He shared his knowledge of hunting and fishing with many and his special love for all animals but most of all his dogs and deer.

Dave is survived by his four children: Kathyrn (Charles) Marks, Johnathan (Connie) Greene, Gerald Greene and Kimberly (Julie) Greene; grandchildren Jesse, Alex (Michele), Johnathan, Ethan, Eva; step-grandchildren Daniel and Sande; great-granddaughter Ivy.  He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, infant daughter Heidi; sisters Goldie and Sally and his parents Hulon and Bonnie.

Dave’s one of a kind personality will be forever missed.  In accordance with Dave’s wishes, services will be private. The family asks for privacy during this time but wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of condolences and support from those that loved him.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his honor to the Chippewa Flowage Musky stocking program, accessible through the Chippewa Flowage Resort Owners Association via their maps or the Pike Improvement Project posters.
