Darrin Christner Obituary

Darrin Lee Christner of Spooner, WI, was born on February 21, 1967.

When Darrin entered heaven on August 28, 2021, he was reunited with his loving mother, Delores. He was a strong man with a big heart who never met a stranger he wouldn’t help. Helping those around him without being asked was one of the things he was known for. He had several groups of people that were like his family: the ladies at River Street restaurant where he ate at daily, the people from car shows that he went to in several areas, and his family. He was a man that had knowledge about everything and shared that with all. Working at Two Hitch City in Florida for many years, then at Carquest in Spooner, many came in to visit him and ask for advice on their vehicles. If he didn’t know (which was seldom) he would find out.

Darrin passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2021, with his loving wife by his side, from a blood clot that went into his lung. Despite attempts to keep him here, God chose to take him home.

Darrin grew up in a country setting where he learned his love of cars from his father, Donald Christner. His mother, Delores, taught him helping was just a thing a person did. Working hard gave him a good life loved by many. He graduated from Spooner High School in 1985. He eventually moved to Florida where he met his wife, Stephanie. He moved back to Wisconsin in December of 2013.

Darrin had a great love for Mustangs, remodeling them and showing them at car shows. He would work on the weekly with his cousin, Mike Christner. Both had good times making them special and with their own style, often very loud and leaving tire marks on the road, (the kid coming out). He loved the races, stock car and drag strip, racing once on the Daytona race track. He taught Johnny Walker how to drag race as they both loved to race, also rebuilt a Mustang for a friend. He helped Clyde Featherly rebuild a car for Clyde’s daughter, a mock for the car that was in the show Supernatural.

Darrin is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie (Waterman) Christner of Spooner; father, Donald Christner of Spooner; mother-in-law Linda McDaniel of Georgia; uncles and aunts, Marie and Dwaine Bentley of Spooner, Hazel and Mike Lee of Minnesota, Michael and Joy of Spooner, Richard and Sharon of Spooner, Betty and Butch Kufalk of Colorado, Darrel Christner of Chippewa Falls, Myia and Jim Nelson of Colorado, Pat Johnson of Spooner, LeRoy and Jan Bassett of Hertel, Roger and Sandy of Dresser, Wisconsin; and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Delores (Bassett) Chistner; paternal grandparents, Delbert and Dorthy (Phinn) Christner; maternal grandparents, William and Sophie (Maday) Bassett; aunt, Ellen Johnson; uncles, Bill Bassett and Chet Bassett; and his companion Boogie, a pet squirrel.

Services will be at a later time at the Greendale Cemetery in the town of Rusk, WI.

You’ve Just Walked Ahead of Me

And I’ve got to understand

You must release the ones you love

And let go of their hand.

I try and cope the best I can

But I am missing you so much

If I could only see you

And once more feel your touch.

Yes, you’ve just walked on ahead of me

Don’t worry I’ll be fine

But now and then I swear I feel

Your hand slip into mine.
