Carol Bacon Obituary

Carol Ann Bacon, RN-COHN-S, nee Hanson, passed away on January 26, 2026, in Hayward, WI at the age of 84.

Carol was born on April 2, 1941, to Raymond and Loretta Hanson, in Chicago, IL.  She graduated from Academy of Our Lady High School in Chicago and became a registered nurse in 1962.  She earned a certification in Trauma Nursing at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and later became certified in Occupational Health.  She spent many years as a CPR educator.   She held professional status with the American Society of Safety Engineers (now the American Society of Safety Professionals) and was awarded a Fellowship in Occupational Health nursing from AAOHN.

After retiring from her twenty-year ownership of an occupational health and safety consulting firm, C-A-B Consultants, she moved to Hayward. She was drawn to the area through her father and her grandfather's friends who lived in the area. She picked a beautiful property on the Tiger Cat Flowage near the dam. She was an avid “fisherman” and caught three muskies, each over 30 inches, with help of a local fishing guide who often interviewed her on his local sportsman's radio show. She loved the outdoors and loved to watch and feed the wildlife on her property. She was the proud parent of many loving cats and dogs throughout her life. Other hobbies included knitting and gardening. She offered her time volunteering at the Cable Natural History Museum, the Senior Center in Hayward and the Hayward Garden Club. She served as chairperson of the Round Lake Planning Commission.

If you were lucky enough to befriend her, you became a friend for life.  She will be sorely missed by many.

A Mass will be said for Carol at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward on May 9th at the 4:00 p.m. Mass.
