Betty Granica Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Louise Granica, 96, joined the Lord on April 30, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on July 3, 1929 in Chicago, IL to George and Josephine (Balaban) Meyers.  At the age of 16 Betty moved to Radisson, WI and attended Winter High School her senior year.  She lived with her Uncle George and Aunt Sally Chevatal.  Betty worked for her Aunt Sally at Chevatal Inn where she met her future husband, Henry.  On August 20, 1949 they exchanged vows at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  They settled on a dairy farm in Ojibwa, WI where Betty embraced farm life and was an avid homemaker to their seven children.

She loved her children but her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.  She was “Nana” who was blessed with a lifetime of love, laughter and beautiful memories watching them grow up.  A hug, kiss, a visit, or a FaceTime call.  She lived for those special memories.

Betty lived a rich and fulfilling life by having many interests and hobbies which included baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, crossword puzzles, shopping and more.  She loved to watch the hummingbirds at her feeders and flowers blooming in her garden.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 303 and looked forward to weekly bingo at the Legion Hall.

As Betty’s children grew up she started working various jobs with the most memorable one as a waitress at Jarosz’s Ojibwa Club.  Betty enjoyed going on vacation with her husband and later with friends. Whether they traveled by car, bus or plane there was always new people to meet.  Betty’s circle of friends grew and grew.  Betty will be missed by all that were lucky enough to be part of her journey.

Betty is survived by her children Robert Granica, Ojibwa WI; Daniel (Robin) Granica, Ojibwa, WI; Cheryl (Chet) Walczak, Burnsville, MN; Gary (Roxy) Granica, Ojibwa, WI ; Bradley (Diane) Granica, Eau Claire, WI; Thomas (Brenda) Granica, Exeland, WI; Michelle (Woody) Anderson, Lakeville, MN; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, brother Charles Byes, special cousin Ray Chevatal, and grandson Chad Walczak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Radisson, WI on May 29, 2026.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00am followed by Mass.  Burial will follow in the Radisson Cemetery.
