Beryl R. Boyd, age 94, of Hayward, WI passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Hayward Health Services.
Beryl Rachel was born August 1, 1924, in Bass Lake Township, Washburn County on the family farm. She was the daughter of George and Winnifred (Williams) Larson. Beryl was raised and attended school in Hayward. She graduated from Hayward High School and moved to Milwaukee, WI where she met Herbert Arthur Boyd. Beryl and Art were married on November 15, 1944 in Hayward, WI. They moved to Keewatin, WI where Beryl worked as a bartender. After several years, Beryl and Art moved their family to Minneapolis, MN where Beryl continued working as a bartender until she took a job managing a country grocery store. After she left the grocery store, she worked as a secretary for a retail store, and then Viking Vending in food preparation. In 1980, Beryl and Art moved to Hayward, WI where Beryl took a job as a greeter for the Co-Op Grocery Store. She was well known there and was affectionately know as “sucker grandma” for all the suckers she handed out. In her free time Beryl liked picking berries and going for car rides. She had an extremely caring heart and, on several occasions, she took in families into her home that needed a helping hand. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and sharing a good joke.
Beryl is survived by five children: Carolee (Gary) Lundsten of Hayward, Faye (Craig) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Jeffrey (Kelly) Boyd of Isanti, MN, William “Bill” Boyd of Hayward, John (Teresa) Boyd of Minneapolis, MN; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Jimmy Larson of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Art; daughter Sharan Whitney; son Darryll Boyd; grandchildren: Amy Lundsten, Amber Boyd and baby Whitney; and one brother, Melroy Larson.
A memorial service celebrating Beryl’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16th at the Hayward Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Hilgendorf officiating. A time of gathering with family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. An interment will be at a later time at the Earl Cemetery.
