Barbara Alice Umholtz, age 93, of Webb Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Dove Health in Spooner, WI. She was born on March 1, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Carl Hugo and Clara Carlson. She was united in marriage to Vernon Francis Umholtz on January 29, 1955 in Chicago.
Barbara graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from Chicago Teachers College in 1954 and went on to earn her Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota.
Barbara worked as an elementary school teacher for over 35 years in Minneapolis. She was deeply proud of her Swedish heritage and shared that love by sending all her grandchildren to Sjölunden, Concordia's Swedish Language Village Camp to learn the Swedish language and culture. She and Vern enjoyed spending their winters in Florida on Okaloosa Island where she worked tirelessly on the The Breakers Condominium board. They spent their summers in the Northwoods and enjoyed time on both Webb Lake and Pelican Lake. Barbara was a great cook and was known for her delicious chicken casserole. She had deep faith and was active with vacation bible school in her church for 30 years. Most of all, Barbara loved her family deeply and was always their biggest cheerleader and supporter.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Vernon Umholtz of Webb Lake, WI; her children, Paris Ruth-Ann Block (Heath Stavos) of East Bethel, MN and Mark (Tami Tapani) Umholtz of Minneapolis, MN and; her grandchildren, Devon Block (Dan Wall), Seth (Audrey) Heidorn, Nate Umholtz and Luke Umholtz; her great-grandchildren, Tyson, Brooks and Liam Heidorn; 2 Sisters-in-Law Joan (Arneil) McGowan, Carol Campbell and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Ann Nagy.
A committal service for close family will take place at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI on November 28th.
