Barbara L. Scalzo

Barbara L. Scalzo, age 75, of Hayward, WI passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Water’s Edge Care Center in Hayward, WI.

Barbara Lee Scalzo was born March 22, 1947, in Rice Lake, WI the daughter of John and Marjorie (Link) Haugen.  Barbara was raised in Minong, WI and Long Beach, CA.  She graduated from Northwood High School in Minong in 1965.  She continued her schooling attending a business school and then cosmetology school.  She was licensed as a beautician for a short time. On May 7, 1966, Barb was joined in marriage to Michael A. Scalzo at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong.  Barb and Mike moved to South Minneapolis for several years and then moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1984.  Barb worked for General Cinema Theaters as a Regional Advertising Manager and then for Disney Studios.  In the early 1990’s, Barb and Mike moved back to Minneapolis, MN where she went to work for Wells Fargo Bank in their Mortgage Department.  She would work over 15 years for Wells Fargo before retiring and moving to Hayward, WI.  Barb enjoyed going shopping, getting her hair done, watching classic cinema, and reading.  She was the kind of mom who other children felt comfortable talking with and would let kids be themselves. 

Barb is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mike; one son, Michael J. (Shelby) Scalzo of Trego, WI, one daughter, Kirstin Scalzo of Hayward, WI; former son-in-law, Dustin Halls; one sister, Kathy (Jim) Phillips of Minong, WI; and her all-American dogs, Charlie and Bitsy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held for Barb at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Hayward Funeral Home.  A time of gathering with the family will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
