Aleksandrs Michael Klidzejs, age 84, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Tamarack Health in Hayward, WI. He was born in Riga, Latvia, the son of Leopolds and Tekla (Rubulis) Klidzejs. He was united in marriage to Norma Joan Topp on May 5, 1979, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
The Klidzejs family came to the United States by boat in 1948 after spending time in a U.S. controlled refugee camp in Germany following WWII.
Aleks graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, IA, where he earned All City and All State honors in football. He attended Denver University where he played football until the program ended. He transferred to the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, playing football on a full ride scholarship and also played on the baseball team; majoring in mechanical engineering. Aleks went on to the University of New Mexico for his PhD in mechanical engineering. He had a successful career as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Lockheed, Honeywell and 3M.
Aleks and Norma retired to Hayward in 2018, adding on to the cabin they purchased in 2002 to be their full-time residence. He loved to fish and would often share his knowledge and his lures which he used for success. He passed on his passion for fishing to his son, Thomas. Aleks enjoyed travelling to watch his son play hockey on the Iowa State Cyclones collegiate team. He was a man of deep faith and read the bible cover to cover of thirty times. He was an active parish member, teaching confirmation classes and serving as an usher. Even after many grim medical diagnoses, Aleks never complained. When he could no longer fish, he never grew tired of looking out over Teal Lake from the large window of his home.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Norma of Hayward, WI; his son, Thomas (Julia) Klidzejs of Woodbury, MN; his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Victoria Klidzejs; and his sister, Angie (Gunar Bruvelis) Klidzejs.
In addition to his parents, Aleks is preceded in death by his brother, Leo Klidzejs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 10586 Dakota Avenue in Hayward, where visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of Mass. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward. A luncheon will be provided after the committal service back at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
