Thomas W. Mattson, age 81, of Ojibwa, WI and formerly of Hayward, WI passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at his home.
Thomas Wayne Mattson was born September 12, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI the son of Wayne and Mabel (LaChappelle) Mattson. Tom moved with his family to Stone Lake, WI and graduated from Hayward High School in 1955. He joined the U.S. Army and served for 26 years and retired as an NCO in supply accounting. After his honorable discharge he worked for the railroad in crew transportation. Tom retired to Hayward, WI where he was a member of the American Legion Post #7233, LCO AMVETS Post #1998, Retired Enlisted Association, and the Forty & Eight where he was a member at large.
Tom is survived by his brother, Gary (Kitty) Mattson of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; sister, Geri (Dennis) Skille of Spooner, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Lois Mattson and one niece, Tina Skille.
A graveside service will be held for Tom at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24th, 2019, at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery with Father Gerard Willger officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program.
