Thomas F. Donovan, age 91, of Spooner, WI passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN.

Thomas Francis Donovan was born June 22, 1928 in Superior, WI the son of John and Josephine
(Caffrey) Donovan.  He was raised in Superior and did his schooling there.  Tom was an excellent basketball player throughout his high school career.  He graduated early from Central High School and went directly into the U.S. Navy.  He served honorably from March 1946 to January 1948.  After his time in the service he returned to the Superior area and worked for a time with the railroad and then selling insurance.  On April 26, 1952, Tom was joined in marriage to Delores Marie Tomczak.  Tom and Delores moved to Spooner, WI where Tom worked for Group Health Mutual Insurance.  In the early 1960’s Tom began work for the U.S. Postal service.  In his twenty-eight years of service there he served as both a clerk and a mail carrier.  Tom walked his fourteen-mile mail route for most of his years with the Post Office.  Tom also served as Mayor for the City of Spooner for eight years from 1972 to 1980.  He retired in 1989.  Tom was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing.  He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner, WI.

Tom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Delores; two sons, Timothy Donovan of Spooner, WI, James (Kristie) Donovan of Madison, WI; three grandchildren, Kilian, Hollister and Korbynn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mary O’Brien, Margaret O’Brien, Patricia Bugel, Betty Brown; and one brother, John Donovan.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held for Tom at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI
