Steve Leon Danczyk

Steven Leon Danczyk, age 60, of Hayward, WI, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at his home.

Steve was born and raised in Hayward and was one of four brothers and a sister.  He grew up rambling in the big woods with his brothers, as they explored the Namekagon and the many lakes of Northern Wisconsin.  He graduated from Hayward High School in 1977, played football, and was one of the few sophomores on the 1974 team that was undefeated in the Heart of the North Conference.  Steve was a “workin’ man” – a stone mason, a rough neck in the oil patch, a lift operator and maintenance man for several western ski hills, a shrimper in the Gulf of Mexico, and a roofer in Washington DC.  After having the good fortune to travel and work across much of our beautiful country, Steve eventually returned to Hayward and operated Danczyk Tree Service for many years.  He was well-known for his tree climbing skills and removing hazardous trees around many local homes and resorts.  

Steve loved all things with motors. He was one of those guys who could repair a broken engine with a crescent wrench and duck-tape, moving from one to the next in a long line of projects in his backyard.  Most happy behind the wheel of a dump truck, ski-boat, or motorcycle, he also provided his nieces and nephews more than a few happy summer afternoons getting towed on tubes around various Sawyer County lakes on “Uncle Steve’s” big boat.  He didn’t stop enjoying the outdoors in the winter, as he loved to ski, snowmobile, and ice-fish.  Even as the many bumps and bruises from his high-risk, physical lifestyle caught up with him, he continued to enjoy being outside on his bike or relaxing in his back yard.  He was a kind soul with a big heart and will be remembered for his willingness to give you the “shirt off his back” despite that being the only one he had.  

Steve is survived by his two children, Lucas and Nevaeh Danczyk of Hayward; mother, Dorothy Danczyk of Hayward; three siblings, John (Bonnie) Danczyk of Hayward, Jody Danczyk of Hayward, Gary (Annell) Danczyk of Whitefish, MT; along with his Danczyk nieces and nephews: Bradley, Brittney, Anne, Jake, Matt, Megan, Jennifer, Tom, and Paul.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy and his father, Walter.

A private visitation and funeral service will be held for Steve with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
