Ruth Trettin Obituary

Ruth M. Trettin, age 98, of Hayward, WI passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Hayward, WI.

Ruth Marjorie was born October 31, 1920 in Spooner, WI the daughter of Melford (Bay) and Karen (Hanson) Norton.  She was raised in Spooner and graduated from high school there.  During World War II Ruth went to work in an ammunitions plant in St. Paul.  After the war she moved back to Spooner where she worked and married Mervin Nelson.  Ruth and Mervin moved to Hayward, WI where she worked for the bakery, Peoples National Bank, and Pioneer Drug and Hallmark Card Shop.  Mervin passed away in 1975.  Ruth was joined in marriage to Don Trettin in 1977.  Ruth enjoyed volunteering and volunteered with the Grey Ladies, Hayward Area Hospital, Indianhead Action Agency, Red Cross, and Hayward Library.  She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Moose Lodge in Hayward.  Ruth was very patriotic and loved our flag and country.  Some of her hobbies included going to garage sales, having a beer, and dealing with junk and jewelry.  She loved her family dearly.

Ruth is survived by her three children, Pamela J. Swanson of Hayward, WI, Patrick Nelson of Chandler, AZ, Norman Nelson of Belton, TX; step children, Carl, Edith and Donna; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Mervin Nelson and Don Trettin; son, Bob Thibedeau; daughter, Barb Trettin; son-in-law, Rollin Swanson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Nelson; and eleven siblings; great grandsons, Dayne and Drew Schlapper.

A memorial service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 25th, at First Lutheran Church in Hayward with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating.  A gathering with family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.  Interment will be in the summer at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Sherman and Ruth Weiss Community Library or the Salvation Army.
