Roger Frederick Nelson

Roger Frederick Nelson, age 79, formerly of Superior and Trego, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at his residence in Oak Grove, MN.   He was born February 5, 1940 in Superior, WI, the son of Frederick and Viana (Nygren) Nelson.  He was united in marriage to Judith Oliver on February 9, 1963 in Superior. 

Roger was born and raised in Superior and was a 1958 graduate of East High School.  He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard in 1959 and also with the United States Army serving in Germany from 1963 through 1965.  Roger was a Lineman for Minnesota Power and retired in 1995.

He lived in Superior until 2004 when he moved to Trego, WI.  He later moved to be near his daughters in Minnesota.  Roger was an avid Packer and Badger sports fan.  Mostly, he was a family man who greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith; his daughters, Shari (Jon) Larson of Ham Lake, MN and Nicole (Bill) Giesie of Oak Grove, MN; his sisters-in-law, Michele Johnson of Solon Springs and Mary Jo Smith of Somerset, CA. 

In addition to his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his son, Todd F. Nelson.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 26, 2019 at Spooner Funeral Home, 306 Rusk Street, in Spooner where visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.  Interment will follow with military honors in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
