Richard Francis McLaughlin Sr.

Richard Francis McLaughlin Sr., age 91 years young of Hayward, WI, formerly from St. Paul, MN, passed away on April 11, 2019.   

He met, then later married his high school sweetheart, while attending Faribault Deaf School.  He retired from the Minneapolis Star and Tribune and moved to Hayward, WI, where he built a home and a great life on Nelson Lake.  He played and excelled at many sports all his life but especially loved his golf after retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Norma Mary (Tice); his children, Francis and Mindy K. Welter; his parents, Michael and Gertrude; and his siblings, Dan, Jane and Connie. 

He is survived by his son, Richard Jr. (Jody); daughter, Sandra Swanson; brothers, Pat (Bea) and Mike (Sandy); eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of Mass.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
