James Hills Obituary

James Lloyd Hills died on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Shell Lake Health Center in Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

James was born on October 16, 1939 in the town of Evergreen, Washburn County, Wisconsin.  He was the son of Lloyd T. Hills and Florence A. Watts Hills.  Jim attended Hammill School in Spooner.  In the second grade he won the class spelling contest.  In the third grade he read the most books of anyone in the class.  In the fifth grade he won a times table contest for both A and B classes.

James Lloyd Hills worked for his father as a carpenter and also a cement worker. He also worked at the cranberry marsh for seven years and at Seneca for ten years.  He worked in Cumberland topping rutabagas for two years and supervised the landfill for nine years four months.  The landfill was located in Evergreen Township.  For two years, the year before his father died and the year after he worked for Stokleys, which was later bought by Seneca.

Jim volunteered at the Food Pantry and helped at the Indianhead Action Agency.  He also helped a lot of elderly people in his community.

James’s father preceded him in death on March 14, 1980.  His mother died on June 8, 1977. He was also preceded in death by brother-in-law Arthur Hanson.

James is survived by his sister Elizabeth “Liz” Hanson and three nephews, Jeffery (Richelle) Hanson of Barronett, Wisconsin, Mark Hanson of Cumberland, Wisconsin and Travis Hanson (Julie) of Necedah, Wisconsin; great nieces and nephews Bailee, Cade, Mason, Olivia, and Grace; and several cousins and extended family and friends.

James was a member of the United Methodist Church of Spooner, Wisconsin.

A funeral service for James will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at United Methodist Church in Spooner, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 at the church. Interment will be in Spring 2019 at McKinley Cemetery in Lorraine Twp, Wisconsin.
