Harold "Moose" Sutherland

Harold “Moose” Sutherland, age 84, of South Range and formerly of Minong, WI, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019.

Harold was born in Bennett, WI, to Carl and Hulda (Paepke) Sutherland on January 12, 1935.  Moose, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Northwestern High School and served as a member of the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.  He married Susan Waggoner on March 28, 1957 and celebrated 46 years of marriage prior to Sue passing in 2003.

Moose worked for Douglas County Highway Department for more than 26 years as an equipment operator, before retiring in 1995.  He served many years as a Board member for the Town of Bennett and Village of Minong.  Moose also served as a volunteer for the Bennett Fire Department and was a member of the Hawthorne/Bennett Lion’s Club.

Moose enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.  He also looked forward to seeing friends and spending time with family from Minong.

He is survived by his sons, Bryan (Susan) Sutherland of Hawthorne, WI, Bruce (Teri) Sutherland of Bennett; daughter, Brenda (Chuck) Warner of Minong; grandchildren, Adam, Ben, and Chris Sutherland, Rebecca Holman, Jason Warner, Heather Holton, Jake and Karly Sutherland; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lois (LeRoy) Burger.

He was preceded in death by his wife Susan, his parents and brother, Marvin.

Casket bearers will be Adam Sutherland, Jason Warner, Ben Sutherland, Chris Sutherland, Jacob Sutherland and Karly Sutherland.

Honorary bearer will be Rebecca Holman and Heather Holton.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at 11:00 AM at The River Church, N13205 Rice Lake Road, Minong, WI with Pastor Ben Kidder officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.  Burial to follow the service at the Greenwood Cemetery, Minong, WI.
