Eilene Jean Harper

Eilene Jean Harper, age 85, a lifelong resident of Hayward, passed away Wednesday May 9, 2018 at Cumberland Healthcare.  She was born March 6, 1933 in Hayward, the daughter of Harry and Agnes (Egge) Munson.  She was united in marriage to Caryll Martin Harper.

Eilene worked as a beautician in Duluth during the time her husband was finishing his education.  After being told she would never be able to have children, she delivered her “miracle baby” and proudly stayed home to raise her daughter.  She worked for the Northern Lakes Co-op as a cashier in the restaurant and later in the grocery store.

Eilene was a very proud and independent woman.  She and her husband were parental figures to many children in need at Northwood’s School in Minong and the surrounding community.  Eilene always had an open door policy and people were welcomed into her home for coffee and good conversation.  She was incredibly upbeat and always ready to give love.  She had a wonderful sense of humor even when the jokes were at her expense.  Eilene loved nature and was a good outdoors woman, enjoying both fishing and hunting.  She was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan, as well as an animal lover, especially her beloved Rat Terrier, Tippy. 

Eilene was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Hayward.

She is survived by her daughter, Cara (Jonathan) Harper-Pasko of Cumberland; her grandchildren, Konur and Valkyra Pasko both of Cumberland; her honorary children, Mark and Holly Kelsey of Hayward; her niece, Karla McGhee of Colorado; and her nephew, Craig Anderson of California.

In addition to her parents, Eilene is preceded in death by her husband, Caryll Martin Harper; and her sister, Evelyn Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M.  on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Hayward Funeral Home, 15571 W. County Highway B in Hayward where visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
