Bruce William Bender

Bruce William Bender, age 80, of Hayward, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Water’s Edge Care Center in Hayward.  He was born March 7, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the son of Arnold and Josephine (Hardesty) Bender.  He was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Meyer on October 15, 1966 in Northfield, IL. 

Bruce dedicated over 47 years as a telephone repairman for AT&T in the northern Chicago area.  He retired to Hayward where he and Sandy enjoyed their home on Lake Windigo.  He was a seasoned fisherman and could be found out on the lake in almost any kind of weather.  Bruce was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching his sons in both baseball and hockey.  He and his wife dedicated many weekends traveling for their children’s club sports.  He was a good athlete in his youth and enjoyed playing tennis with his wife.  He was passionate about classic cars and enjoyed watching shows about restoring, fabricating and auctioning older vehicles.  Bruce loved animals especially his Golden Retrievers.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sandy of Hayward; his children, Michael (Eniko) Bender of Gurnee, IL, Christopher (Lorie) Bender of Hayward and Tracy Bender of Gurnee, IL; his grandchildren, Haley, Kyle, Victoria and Camille; and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bender.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
